Philly SIGGRAPH’s New Residency!

We’re excited to announce that Philly SIGGRAPH is now a Partner in Residence with DesignPhiladelphia! This new chapter strengthens our mission to celebrate and explore the intersection of design, graphics technology, and digital creativity across Philadelphia.

Our new home base at the Center for DesignPhiladelphia (1218 Arch Street) is located at the heart of the city, right across from the Convention Center and Suburban Station. As part of this collaboration, we’ll be hosting a series of events, workshops, and community gatherings that spotlight the city’s most innovative work in interactive design, animation, digital art, and immersive media.

Cesium Developer Conference

Philly SIGGRAPH will be representing our chapter at the Cesium Developer Conference, held June 23–25 at the Loews Hotel in Center City! 

The event will celebrate the amazing work of the graphics and geospatial community, with over 500 attendees expected. 

We want you to be a part of it! Philly SIG will be hosting a booth to represent our chapter and are preparing a video presentation to highlight the talent, creativity, and technical expertise of our members.

Get ready to unleash your creativity and Halloween spirit! 🎨🎃 Philly SIGGRAPH is hosting a fun, virtual event on Discord, and we’d love for you to join us!

 Date: Thursday, October 24th
 Time: 6:00 – 7:15 PM

Event Breakdown:

  • 5 minutes: We’ll kick off by sharing some source files and going over the basic rules.
  • 60 minutes: Time to get spooky! Sculpt a 3D pumpkin in any style using your favorite software or illustrate a Halloween-themed character or scene (funny, spooky, you name it!).
  • 10 minutes: Show off your masterpiece! We’ll wrap up with a quick “show and tell” session.

Feeling competitive? Start from one of our templates and enter to win a prize, or bring your own project to create alongside us.

Prizes:

  • 3D projects: Win a 3D-printed miniature
  • 2D projects: Take home a framed print

Plus, from 10/25 to Halloween, SIGGRAPH members will vote for their favorite designs via a Discord poll.

Our first event, a screening of the ACM SIGGRAPH 2023 Computer Animation Festival at Cesium was a smashing success, with over 60 people in attendance! Thank you for showing out for such a wonderful evening of computer graphics excellence. 

But we’re not sitting on that success. In fact, for our next event, we’re hoping YOU might supply the art. Yes, that’s right, it’s a Bring Your Own Art and Animation (BYOA) event. Screen works-in-progress, get feedback and encouragement, and enjoy some more great times with the Philly SIGGRAPH community. You don’t have to share your work to participate though – it will be great to have you there anyway.

Note that this is a VIRTUAL event that will happen on our Discord server (see below on how to join).
